Foster A Wild thing

There are always animals in need and together we are able to give loving dogs a chance to find they're forever homes.

Where the Wild Things Are Rescue is a shelter-less rescue group and our mission is to save lives. This is made possible by a network of incredible foster families who open their hearts and homes to care for our rescues.

Step 1: Complete and Submit Foster Application

Step 2: You will receive an email from one of our application processors to setup a phone interview (typically 30 minutes), Please be prepared, we will conduct a landlord reference (if you rent), a vet reference check, and personal reference along with background check.

Step 3: After a phone interview, we will conduct a home visit. This allows us to make sure your home is a safe haven for our dogs to live, as well as have the opportunity to meet your dogs to ensure the environment will fit well for your potential Foster pup. With the current COVID Pandemic we are now performing these virtually.

Step 4: After phone interview and home check are completed and passed. You will be approved to foster one of our dogs. From there we will notify you when a foster is incoming and in need.

Important Notes and FAQs:

Please understand it is not our intention to make the foster application process cumbersome; it is our job to ensure the animals in our care get the best possible match as they wait for their forever homes. Some of the questions are meant to be thought-provoking, so that you have a chance to thoroughly consider all aspects of welcoming a new foster into your home. We conduct background checks, search social media websites, and require references from your veterinarian, landlord, and personal contacts.

We typically have limited information about our dogs before they arrive to be placed in foster homes. Our dogs are tested for compatibility with other dogs and have to be dog and people friendly. But they may not be house trained, and accidents should be expected. Rescue dogs should always be considered a flight risk and extra precaution must be taken to prevent any possibility for escape. Barring an emergency, we ask that fosters commit to keeping their foster dog for a minimum of 2 weeks. Our dogs come with all vaccinations, spayed/neutered, microchipped, tested for heartworms (not contagious if positive), wormed and started on monthly preventatives. There are times we do have dogs arrive that might still need to be spayed or neutered but we discuss that with our fosters first.

Medical Care Fosters: We often times need fosters to care for dogs during heartworm treatment. These dogs do not attend events and require exercise restriction. Our dogs are treated for heartworms at our vets in Augusta, GA, Thomson, GA and Edgefield, SC.

Puppy/Whelping Fosters: Occasionally we have the need for fosters for puppies or pregnant mothers who need a home to have their babies.

Senior Fosters: We will often times rescue Senior dogs, Most are used to living indoors and make awesome fosters!

If you're interested in adopting your foster dog, please notify the foster coordinator immediately. Our basic adoption fee is $300, which includes spay/neuter (unless too young or small), rabies vaccine (if older than 16 weeks), age appropriate shots, bordetella, heartwarming testing, flea treatment, deworming, and microchipping (when available). Puppies that are not able to be neutered/spayed are required to be spayed/neutered by 5 months of age.

Breeds listed on our websites are merely a guess unless we know the dog is a purebred or have seen the parents. If breeds are important to you, please consider a breed specific rescue.
